From Saturday 12 February, a second tour route in Výpustek Cave near Křtiny in the Moravian Karst will open in pilot mode. The existing classic circuit takes visitors through the so-called “shelter” – a secret underground command centre that the former Czechoslovak People’s Army installed 200 metres inside the cave in 1961 as a separate facility in preparation for possible wartime conflict.
The new adventure route “In Search of the Cave’s Secrets” will lead around its perimeter – between the outer wall of the shelter and the natural cave wall. There is no electric lighting; only helmet-mounted headlamps are used. Groups are limited to a maximum of 10 people. “Unlike the classic route through the shelter, the new route is not barrier-free; it is 690 metres long and takes approximately 80 minutes. Participants must be at least six years old,” explains Výpustek Cave manager Hana Horáková.
To book the adventure tour – during which visitors can marvel at beautiful thin stalactites while crouching down – you must make a reservation in advance by calling 516 439 111. For more information visit: https://www.caves.cz/jeskyne/jeskyne-vypustek.
The Czech Cave Administration has for several years successfully operated the adventure route In the Footsteps of Nagel in the lower levels of Sloupsko-šošůvské Caves. That route is more physically demanding – participants must be at least 10 years old.
