Hidden in the depths of Pustý Gorge, these are the most famous and most visited caves in the Czech Republic. Macocha Abyss and the boat ride along the underground Punkva river are unique experiences you simply must have.
Punkva Caves also has a brand new modern entrance building, and the facilities throughout the complex have been significantly upgraded.
Your stay package includes tickets for the cable car and tourist train
The closest accommodation to Punkva Caves is our Hotel Skalní mlýn – you can walk to the cave in about half an hour (just under 2 km). The hotel also runs a tourist train to the cave. If you purchase a stay package with us, your train ticket is included. From Macocha Abyss, the Macocha nature trail (approx. 1.6 km) leads to Punkva Caves, though the terrain is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. A more comfortable option from the upper viewing bridge is to take the gondola cable car down to Punkva Caves – again, the cable car ticket is included in stay packages.
We strongly recommend booking your Punkva Caves tickets in advance, and we'll be happy to arrange this for you. Availability depends on limited capacity. You may also choose one of our stay packages, which include guaranteed cave reservations – we book the tickets automatically.

What will you see at Punkva Caves?
Punkva Caves are part of the longest cave system in the Czech Republic – the Amateur Cave. They were gradually discovered between 1909 and 1933 by a renowned group led by Karel Absolon. The tour begins in the Front Dome, where visitors walk past the Sentinel – a 4-metre-long stalactite – and cross a bridge to the Mirror Lake, in which the reflections of the Inverted Umbrella, Two Owls, Castle on the Rock and Turkish Minaret can be seen.
Next comes an ascent into Reichenbach's Dome. The tour continues through the richly decorated Stalagmite Passage into the Rear Dome and on into the Hall of the Angel, a massive stalagmite of unique forms. A tunnel passage leads down to the floor of Macocha Abyss. You'll be awestruck by the monumental view of 138.5 m-high rock walls. From the bottom of Macocha Abyss, visitors board boats and stop in Masaryk's Dome, with its impressive stalactite formations. The dominant feature is the illuminated stalagmite known as Hus's Column. After a short but magical stop, it's just a little further back to daylight.
Boat ride at Punkva Caves
► Boat trips have been operating since 1920.
► The first section of the boat ride leads along a blind arm of the Punkva past tall chimneys to the so-called "Forty". Here, from a passage deep below the surface, the Punkva emerges into open spaces, and the ride continues along the active river. After visiting Masaryk's Dome, the boat ride continues along the illuminated passage back to the Punkva resurgence.
► The motorised boats are stable and children can be taken on board.
