Dog-Friendly Holiday in Moravian Karst

Looking for a holiday destination where your dog is welcome? Head to the heart of Moravian Karst. Hotel Skalní mlýn is a perfect base for exploring the natural surroundings with your four-legged friend.

Park comfortably in the large car park, from which the tourist train departs to the popular Punkva Caves (please note that dogs are not permitted inside the caves themselves).
The restaurant at Hotel Skalní mlýn is dog-friendly (please note that dogs are not permitted to stay in the hotel rooms).
Dogs are also welcome without restrictions on both the tourist train and the cable car. The train runs from the car park to Punkva Caves, and the cable car continues from there to the upper viewing platform at Macocha Abyss.

Tips for trips with your dog

Viewpoint – upper and lower bridges at Macocha Abyss

A popular outing with dogs is a trip to Macocha Abyss. You can drive up to the upper viewing bridge (the car park is about 100 metres from the viewpoint) and take a walk down to the lower bridge (around 350 metres, but the descent and ascent are quite steep with many steps). If you prefer a longer walk, you can also head to Macocha with your dog from Hotel Skalní mlýn.

Following the yellow hiking trail, it's 2.5 kilometres to Macocha (with an elevation gain of about 160 metres). You can return the same way, or descend via the blue trail into the Punkva Gorge, then walk along the flat path from there. The blue trail is longer – 3.5 kilometres – but you can shorten it by taking the cable car or even the tourist train. Both are dog-friendly.

Walk to Catherine's Cave and Punkva Caves

You cannot enter the caves with a dog, but you can walk up to the entrances. The green hiking trail leads to Catherine's Cave – it's just a 5-minute walk from the hotel car park. The blue trail follows the Punkva river to Punkva Caves – just under two kilometres. If you'd like to shorten the return trip, the tourist train also runs along this route.

Walk to Sloup

For those who enjoy longer hikes with their dog, we highly recommend the walk to Sloup. Two routes are available:

► Via the Křenka trail along the yellow marked path, passing the viewpoint over Macocha Abyss. The one-way distance is about 8 kilometres, but due to the significant elevation gain, allow at least 2.5 hours.
