Via Ferrata and Speleoferrata in Moravian Karst

Via Ferrata and Speleoferrata in Moravian Karst

What is a via ferrata?

A via ferrata is a secured climbing route typically found in mountainous terrain, often in areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. It provides safe passage along an "iron path" using fixed protection – steel cables, metal footholds and other aids that make the ascent easier. A via ferrata opens up mountain adventures to visitors with no rock climbing experience.

Velká dohoda Ferrata Park

Love nature and rocks? Get your adrenaline going and visit Ferrata Park Velká dohoda in Moravia, located near the village of Ostrov u Macochy in a former limestone quarry that closed in 1975. The atmosphere is enhanced by limestone crags and conifer and beech forests. The complex also includes a former lime kiln from 1928 and former administrative buildings.
Velká dohoda offers climbing and adrenaline activities, including:

  • cable car across the quarry
  • ropes course
  • via ferrata routes
  • rock climbing

Are you a via ferrata beginner or do you already have some experience? Looking to prepare for mountain climbing? Or want to train for alpine via ferratas?

You'll find:

  • a total of 711 m of via ferrata
  • route difficulties from A to E
  • 4 rope bridges (one 60 metres long, three around 10 metres)
  • 2 ladders (15 m and 2.5 m long)

Most routes have a taut steel safety cable; on some, the cable is loose for a more realistic difficulty comparison. On easier routes, climbing pegs and pins assist your progress. The more challenging D and E sections have no pegs. Ferrata shoes, boots or trekking shoes are recommended for these sections. Gloves are also advised.
Since spring 2021, the ferrata park features new routes!
