Hiking in Moravian Karst

Moravian Karst is literally threaded with well-marked and well-maintained hiking trails and nature trails. They lead to all the most popular attractions, including Macocha and the caves, and there's something for everyone. Walk through deep valleys and karst gorges up to highland plateaus with stunning views over the enchanting landscape of Moravian Karst, with its white limestone formations and the forested hills of the Drahanská vrchovina upland.

Relax in your hotel room, plan your Moravian Karst hiking route and set off first thing in the morning!

In the immediate vicinity of the hotel, you'll find these nature trails, for example:

Macocha Nature Trail (6 km, 16 stops)

The trail leads from Skalní mlýn to Catherine's Cave. From Catherine's Cave, a fairly steep climb takes you up to the Upper Bridge of Macocha Abyss. After taking in the view, you can stop for refreshments at Macocha Chalet before continuing. From the upper bridge, the trail leads to the Koňský spád viewpoint, from which you descend into the depths of Pustý Gorge, where you'll find the lower cable car station and Punkva Caves with boat rides. The walk ends along the tourist train route back to Skalní mlýn.

Rudice Sinkhole and Jedovnice Nature Trail (9 km, 13 stops)

The trail starts at the main square in Jedovnice, passing by the well-known Olšovec and Budkovan ponds. Following the Jedovnice stream, you reach the breathtaking Rudice sinkhole, whose cave system – the Rudice Sinkhole-Býčí skála system – is, at over 12 km, the second longest in the Czech Republic.

The Rudice sinkhole cave spaces are not open to the public. Visits are possible only as part of speleology courses accompanied by speleologists.

Visit castles, chateaux and lookout towers

On your trips, you can also visit castle ruins – Nový Hrad, Holštejn or Blansek. Moravian Karst also has several lookout towers – Podvrší in Veselice, Alexandrovka near Adamov, Babí lom near Brno, Malý Chlum near Obora and the lookout tower at Žernovník.

Do you prefer chateaux? We have a Renaissance chateau in Blansko, a French-style chateau in Rájec nad Svitavou, and chateaux in Kunštát and Lysice with beautiful gardens that bloom in a multitude of colours in summer.

Lovers of religious heritage will enjoy Santini's baroque church in Křtiny or the pilgrimage church in Sloup. Blansko has two churches. The first is the baroque Church of St Martin with a viewpoint in the church tower, accessible thanks to a newly reconstructed staircase. From here visitors can admire views over the Svitava river valley and the Blansko chateau. The second is a wooden church from the mid-17th century, originally built in Nyzhné Selyshche in Subcarpathian Ukraine.

Enjoy swimming at the aquapark or in a pond

After hiking through Moravian Karst, you'll appreciate a pleasant rest at one of the nearby aquaparks in Blansko, Boskovice or Kuřim. Those who prefer natural swimming spots can head to the pond in Jedovnice, Ostrov u Macochy, or cycle to the village of Suchý, where the water, thanks to its high altitude, stays clean throughout the season and is a popular swimming spot.

As you can see, you'll never be bored in Moravian Karst!
