Walk: Obůrka – Palava

Moravian Karst and its surroundings offer a wide variety of ways to enjoy time in nature. Staying at Hotel Skalní mlýn and looking for trip ideas?

A lovely and easy route leads from Obůrka to the Palava reservoir near Blansko. The walk begins at the bus turning loop at Obůrka, which you can reach from Blansko by bus no. 233 or by local public transport – line 223. No uphill sections – just flat or gently downhill all the way.

The route is also suitable for families with young children, as it is not long (2.9 km). However, we wouldn't recommend it for pushchairs unless two adults are present who can carry the buggy over uneven sections or support each other on steeper descents.

View the route

The forest entrance is right at the bus turning loop. Follow the blue trail markings and keep straight ahead. The path starts flat and then begins to slope gently downhill.

This section is an ideal opportunity (during mushroom season) to step off the path and forage for mushrooms. The terrain is also great for various games with children. You'll emerge from the forest at a crossroads with an open view of the surrounding landscape. Continue straight ahead downhill. After a few metres along a field track, bear slightly left – the blue trail leads you back into the trees. Walk along the flat stretch past a clearing, and then the path slopes down again, this time a little more steeply.

After a short while, you descend to a tarmac road by a small pond. Turn left. On your right, you pass a larger pond – the Palava II reservoir.

It's a lovely, peaceful spot, ideal for relaxing. Once you've had your fill of the views over the water and the surrounding landscape, continue in the same direction you approached the reservoir from. This section is along a forest path rather than tarmac.

At the end of the walk, the Palava Blansko recreation area awaits, with various leisure activities on offer. If you're with children, there's a lovely playground with several play features. Swimming is possible in summer. There's also a mini-golf course near the reservoir.

The Palava artificial reservoir, covering 1.4 hectares, is part of the Palava recreation area approximately 1 km east of the centre of Blansko. It has grassy banks, a sandy bottom, a diving board, jetty, ball-throwing basket, sandy beach, beach volleyball court, refreshment stalls and a restaurant. The reservoir sits at the edge of a large forest complex that extends into the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. The reservoir was opened for swimming in 1971. In 2009, the reservoir bed was dredged.
