The beauty of Moravian Karst and surroundings
Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area, situated in South Moravia – specifically in the South Moravian Region – is far more than just Macocha Abyss and Punkva Caves. There are countless other attractions, including the chateau in Lysice or Rájec-Jestřebí, pilgrimage churches in Křtiny and Sloup, an aquapark in Blansko, a singletrail in Jedovnice, and the Velká dohoda ropes course in a former limestone quarry near Holštejn. The entire area is woven with a dense network of hiking trails and cycle paths, and offers excellent facilities for families with children. Right in the heart of Moravian Karst you'll find Hotel Skalní mlýn, an ideal base for exploring the greatest highlights of the Moravian Karst PLA. The Moravian Karst Nature House is just a short walk away, and the caves (Punkva Caves, Catherine's Cave) and Macocha Abyss are all nearby.
How to get to Moravian Karst?
You can comfortably travel to Moravian Karst by train from Brno with a change at Blansko – from there, bus line no. 226 runs directly to the hotel. Getting here by car is equally straightforward: there is a large car park (paid) in front of the hotel. From there, the biggest attraction in Moravian Karst – Punkva Caves – is about a 30-minute walk (just under two kilometres). You can shorten this by taking the electric tourist train, which departs from the car park and takes you to Punkva Caves and the cable car (for a view down into Macocha Abyss).
