According to statistics from 2017 compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, Czechs collected nearly 28,000 tonnes of mushrooms that year. There's no doubt that Czechs are passionate foragers – and mushrooms certainly grow in Moravian Karst and the Blansko district. Below are a few tips on where to head for the best chances of coming home with a full basket during mushroom season.
Where to find mushrooms in the Blansko district?
- Near Jedovnice – head into the forests beyond the ATC Olšovec campsite in the direction of the village of Bukovina.
- Around the villages of Petrovice and Ostrov u Macochy.
- Above Adamov – take the uphill path towards Adamov, for example in the direction of Alexander's Lookout Tower.
- Above Olomučany – combine mushroom picking with a visit to the ruins of Nový Hrad castle.
- Above the Blansko-Klepačov district, heading towards the village of Rudice.
Of course, every seasoned forager keeps their best spots secret – but thanks to the boom in social media, there are now mushroom-picking Facebook groups where people share their finds and occasionally reveal their locations. Happy foraging!
